FAQs
Q: What is the difference between Recurring Lessons and Single Lessons?
Recurring Lessons – The majority of our students choose recurring lessons. This means that you keep the same day, time, and teacher, each week, from the day you start lessons until the end of June in the school year. Regularly scheduled lessons and consistency are important when learning music and/or a new instrument.
Single Lessons – Ideal for students with an inconsistent schedule or a student who only wants to ‘try’ lessons, you can purchase and only reserve the day(s) you want. Single Lessons must be booked and paid for at least 24 hours in advance, and no more than three weeks in advance. They may be rescheduled with up to 24 hours notice, up to one time each.
Q: How is my tuition calculated?
The total tuition for recurring lessons is simply {the rate per lesson} x {the number of lesson days from the day you start lessons to the end of June}. We do not count the days we are closed.
Q: Is the tuition the same if I pay all at once or if I pay using a payment plan?
Yes. The total tuition may be paid up front, or may be segmented into a payment plan. The total is the same, either way.
Q: What if I need to miss a lesson?
No refunds are available for student absences. Please respect that the lesson time and teacher assigned to each student requires studio space and teacher availability. If a student misses a lesson, the student understands that they are forfeiting the cost of the lesson. This time is reserved for you and lessons are often consecutive with other students scheduled before and after. No adjustment fee or refund is given for missed lessons or time lost by the student.
If you are unable to make it to a lesson, we appreciate you letting us know as soon as possible. We open up this time for other students who may want to pick up an extra lesson. In return, someone else’s lesson time may become available for you to take any time in the year. Check with the Front Desk as frequently as you like to book another student’s missed lesson time for free.
Q: Teacher Absences – Make Up Lessons We Owe You
Occasionally your teacher may not be able to come in for your lesson. We reserve the right to reschedule these lessons at a mutually convenient time or have a substitute teacher come in temporarily for the lesson.
Withdrawals
Four weeks advanced written notice is required to terminate lessons. If for any reason you are unsatisfied with your lessons we ask that you please contact lessons@albertaschoolofmusic.ca. Our goal is to ensure that all ASOM students enjoy their musical journey with us.
Please allow one week for the General Manager to get back to you. Your 4 week notice will be calculated based on the day of your notice. Your lesson count will be re-calibrated to include all lessons up to the end of that four week window, and your payment will be adjusted accordingly to cover your new total. If there has been an overpayment, we will refund you the balance. If there is still a portion owing, we will adjust your final monthly payment to cover the balance.
Referral Credits
Your referrals are the greatest compliment to us! As a token of our appreciation, current students who have referred new students to us over the past year will receive 10% of what the referred new student paid in tuition, within the past 12 month window. This credit is redeemable for purchases at Alberta School of Music. The credits are non- transferable and have no cash value.
The amount of the referral credit is 10% of what the referred new student contracts to pay in tuition, within the past 12 month window. Referral credits calculated March 1st – Feb 28th each year and will be sent to students to be redeemed in the month of March. To qualify as a referral, the new student must let us know who referred them at the time of registration. It is the student’s responsibility to present their code at the time of purchase. There is no limit to the amount of credits you can receive, so if you refer 10 students in one year you could receive a year of free lessons the following year.
For example, if Student A refers Student B and Student B pays $1300 for their lessons from September 2022 to June 2023, Student A will get a credit of $130 towards their September 2023 – June 2024 tuition. There is no limit to the amount of credits you can receive, so if you refer 10 students in one year you could receive a year of free lessons the following year.
